New Delhi. The Monsoon session of Parliament is starting from 21st July. This time it is going to be a decisive battleground between the ruling party and the opposition. According to political analysts, this session is going to be very important not only for the legislative agenda, but also for the stability of power and the power display of the opposition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been leading governments with full majority till now, is now running a coalition government. This time the opposition in Parliament has also become much stronger than before. In such a situation, during the monsoon session, both the ruling party and the opposition can put in all their strength for their existence and influence. Two major allies of the BJP in the government—Telugu Desam Party ( TDP ) and Janata Dal United (JDU)—remain the backbone of the central ruling coalition. But differences are emerging between the two parties on some issues. If the support of these parties is removed, the government may come under crisis and there may be a need for mid-term elections.
Controversial issues will heat up the atmosphere
The opposition India Alliance has already prepared to corner the government on several issues. Such issues include the dispute over the voter list in Bihar and questions on the impartiality of the Election Commission, the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, alleged flaws in Operation Sindoor, Pakistan-China alliance, political interference on the army, unrest in Manipur, China’s displeasure over the Dalai Lama, India-China trade deficit and the silence of Indian ministers on the China visit, trade pressure from America, pressure from Russia on the defense deal. Apart from these, the opposition is also preparing to corner the ruling party on the lack of trust in the Election Commission, pending cases in the Supreme Court, and the attempt to impeach judges.
There are many important bills on the government’s agenda
The government wants to pass several key bills in this session, including: Digital Competition Bill, GST Tribunal Bill, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment), Ethical Conduct in Sports Bill, Geological Heritage Conservation Bill, Bill to extend President’s rule in Manipur as well as Supreme Court’s decision on Waqf Bill and Bihar voter list, which could become a big issue in the House.
The opposition’s stance is aggressive, the opposition’s stance is clear
If strength is not shown now, then there will be no existence in the future. Opposition strategists are comparing this time with the pre-emergency atmosphere of 1975, when student movements and issues such as inflation and unemployment had prepared the ground for changing the power. This time the opposition has devised a strategy to agitate public sentiments by making voter’s rights an issue. There will be a show of strength in the parliament. Overall, the political temperature is expected to be at its peak in the monsoon session starting from 21st July. Therefore, this is not just a session for both sides, but it can be a battle that decides the future political direction .
