Telugu News:Telangana- Sarees distributed to women at the rate of two per bathukamma

The Telangana government is all set to distribute handloom sarees to members of women self-help groups under the name of Revantanna Kanuka on the occasion of Bathukamma festival. In the past, there was criticism over the quality of the sarees, but this time quality sarees are being provided. Through this scheme, the government has come forward with the aim of providing sarees to women and also providing employment to handloom workers.

Reaction to past decisions

In the past, the BRS government had provided Bathukamma sarees to every woman with a ration card . But there was severe criticism over their quality. Noticing this situation, the current Congress government had stopped the distribution of sarees last year. However, due to opposition to that decision, it has decided to provide quality sarees this time.

Help for the handloom sector

The main objective of this scheme is not only to provide sarees to women but also to provide employment opportunities to handloom weavers. Special designs and prices

These sarees were made in special designs selected by Handloom and Textiles Commissioner Shailaja Ramayyar and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Each saree is estimated to be worth around Rs.800.

Types of sarees

Sarees are available in two sizes, 6.5 meters and 9 meters. This is the first time that sarees have been distributed to women’s groups since the Congress government came to power. The government claims that by distributing sarees, it is not only increasing the dignity of women but also supporting the handloom sector .

They will be distributed only to members of women’s self-help groups (SHGs).

Where are these sarees made?
They are made in handloom centers in Warangal, Karimnagar, and Sircilla districts.
