Another key milestone has been reached in the Greenfield Expressway Project, which is proposed to further speed up transport facilities between the capitals of the Telugu states, Hyderabad and Amaravati . The Central and State governments, which have been conducting discussions, surveys and observations on this project, have now almost finalized the alignment. If completed, this new road will not only reduce the distance between the two major cities, but also significantly reduce the travel time.
Currently, it takes four and a half hours to reach Amaravati from Hyderabad . However, if this expressway is fully operational, the journey will be completed in just two and a half hours. That is, about two hours will be saved compared to the present time. This will make business trips, official work, as well as student travel easier.
To the national highway
The expressway will start at Tippareddypalli, near the proposed Future City in Mucharla between the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the Regional Ring Road (RRR). From there, it will run on the right side of the existing Vijayawada National Highway through Rangareddy, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts of Telangana. It will then reach Amaravati near Sattenapalli in Andhra Pradesh. From there, the highway will be connected to Bandaru Port via Lankalapalli.

Of this total length of 297.82 km, 118 km will be constructed in Telangana and 180 km in Andhra Pradesh. Accordingly, the distance from Hyderabad Future City to Amaravati will be only 211 km. This is 57 km less than the current route. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently requested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to build this expressway with 12 lanes as per future needs.
Plans are in place to expand in phases.
If it gets the Centre’s approval, it will be the first 12-lane expressway in South India, official sources say. Initially, it will be built with 6 or 8 lanes and expanded in phases.Plans are being made to expandIt is estimated that the cost of land acquisition and construction will be more than Rs. 10,000 crores, according to preliminary estimates.
More key projects are coming up in association with this expressway. The Telangana government is planning to connect the dry port to be set up in the joint Mahabubnagar district with this road. This will facilitate direct transport of goods from the dry port to the port. Both the state governments are requesting the Centre to also build a high-speed rail line along the same route.
