Why is the Tirupati Balaji Swamy idol kept with its eyes closed?
The eyes of the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy idol are usually covered with a white saree. The main reason for this is that the divine spiritual power emanating from the eyes of the Lord is very strong. According to the Puranas, the devotees could not look directly at that divine vision, as their bodies could not withstand that power. Hence, the custom of covering the eyes of the Lord continues. This not only indicates humility, but is also considered a spiritual sign of focusing on the inner nature of the Lord.
