To check such incidents, Sikkim Chief Minister Tamang has brought the Shravan Kumar Award scheme .On the care of elderly parentsThe Sikkim government has announced that it will honour the sons and daughters who are paying special attention with an award. In this order, a total of 199 people have been selected from across the state for the 77th Independence Day celebrations. All of them will be awarded ‘Shravan Kumar’ awards on Friday. Sikkim Chief Minister Tamang said that a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh will also be given to each of them.
The state government introduced these awards today at Paljor Stadium with the aim of strengthening family values and bonds. He said that this scheme has been brought with the aim of effectively dealing with the disturbing modern reality. He said that some people are abandoning their parents in old age homes, which is a practice against the morals of the state of Sikkim. If we fail to respect and care for our parents, we not only lose our values. We also risk losing our identity as a society, he said. On this occasion, CM Tamang recalled Shravan Kumar, who served his blind parents in our mythology. That is why the Shravan Kumar Award will be presented every year on the occasion of Independence Day. The Rural Development Department will act as the nodal agency for this award. The selection process will start at the Gram Sabha level, one by one. The District Verification Committee headed by the District Collector will scrutinize the nominations. If necessary, background checks will be conducted. Candidates who have shown continuous care for their parents, personal sacrifice, moral conduct, and commitment to their respect and well-being will be assessed and selected for this award. The purpose of this scheme (Government New Scheme) is not only to restore human values but also to strengthen the emotional and cultural foundations of the society. Chief Minister Tamang said that real progress lies in walking with our elders, respecting their wisdom, and treating them as they once treated us .
