President’s Rule: Extension of President’s Rule in Manipur

President's Rule: Extension of President's Rule in Manipur

In the wake of the political crisis in Manipur, Chief Minister Biren Singh resigned on February 13 this year . In this context, the administration was suspended in the state and President’s rule was imposed. The Center decided to impose President’s rule due to the deterioration of law and order in Manipur, clashes between tribes, and mutual hatred.

Resolution to extend rule: Approved in Parliament

The central government has recently decided to further extend the President ‘s Rule in Manipur . Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution on this issue in Parliament, which was approved by the House. This will extend the President’s Rule in Manipur for another six months. Thus, the state will continue to be under the control of the central government until February 2026.

Uncertainty over political future

With no signs of elections in Manipur at present, the people there are eagerly awaiting the future governance. The Centre needs to focus more on issues like peacekeeping and mutual coordination. Political parties will have to take appropriate steps to win the trust of the people once again. Although the political situation there has temporarily stabilized with the extension of President’s Rule, long-term solutions are still in limbo.
