Atrocity in the store: An incident that happened in 2021
58-year-old Ramalingam SelvasekaranThe man committed the crime on October 28, 2021, at his provision shop in Jurong West . The case alleges that the minor, who had come to buy ice cream, was taken to the back of his shop and sexually assaulted. The girl, who was being harassed, bravely reported the incident to the police with the help of a bystander. The authorities immediately responded and began investigating the case. The trial began on January 16, and the convict was sentenced on July 7.

The court rejected the accused’s arguments.
Ramalingam argued that the sexual assault did not occur due to his health problem (erectile dysfunction ) and that his DNA traces were not on the victim. But the court did not accept these arguments. Justice Aidan Xu said – the girl’s evidence was consistent and credible. Ramalingam explained that in his initial statement to the police, he admitted to touching, kissing and performing sexual acts on the child. The court believed that his later denials were an attempt to hide the truth.
Released on bail – ready for appeal
The court sentenced him to 14 years in prison and severe corporal punishment. However, Ramalingam said he would appeal the verdict against him. He was released on bail after paying Rs. 80,000 Singapore dollars.
