Delhi Court has made headlines with a bizarre sentence. The court has imposed an unexpected sentence on four accused who were found guilty of contempt of court. The judge has ordered that those who ignored the court by not submitting bail bonds will have to stand with their hands raised for the whole day . This sentence was imposed by Judicial Magistrate Saurabh Goyal during the final hearing of a 2018 case. The court was angered when the accused did not even submit their bail papers despite waiting from 10 am to 11:40 am.

Contempt is a waste of court time.
The court considered the negligence of the accused as a grave contempt. The judge commented – “Ignoring our orders is a waste of the court’s time.” Hence, the accused were ordered to stand in the courtroom with their hands raised for the whole day under Section 228 of the Indian Penal Code. A total of four people remain in the case. Out of the total six accused, two have already died. The remaining four – Anand, Kuldeep, Rakesh, Upasana – attended the hearing. But they were subjected to this strange punishment for not submitting the necessary documents.
Only one person is relieved.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep submitted bail bonds at around 12:48 pm. The court immediately ordered his release from custody. However, the judge gave the clarity that the punishment should continue for the remaining three. There is a debate in legal circles about this incident. There are opinions that strict action should be taken against those who ignore court procedures. This sentence has once again reminded us that such things are inevitable if the judiciary is not respected. The court made it clear that the negligence of the accused in matters like strict timekeeping and submission of documents is a disgrace to the judicial system.
