When an individual conducts a ritual at home, the motive is not only to appease the god but to establish equilibrium, mental tranquility, and positivity in life. Let us find out what all needs to be remembered before conducting a Vedic ritual at home so that its complete advantage can be availed.
1. Purity of the Place
Prior to beginning the Anushthan, it is most essential that the worship place is pure and sacred. Scriptures narrate that gods dwell where purity and sattvic energy are present.
• Take a quiet place or a prayer room within the house.
• Purify the worship area with Ganga water or clean water.
• For setting up a picture, idol, or Kalash at the worship place, the east or north direction is considered most auspicious.
2. Correct Material Arrangement
Keep all the required materials in advance so that the ritual is not disturbed. Typically used are:
• Kalash, Ganga water, Panchamrit, flowers, rice (akshat), durva grass, lamp, ghee, camphor, naivedya (offering), sacred thread (mauli/kalava), clean clothes, etc.
• Maintain special offerings for the deity being worshipped (e.g., bilva leaves for Lord Shiva, tulsi leaves for Lord Vishnu).
