‘Breakfast’ Scheme: Breakfast Scheme in Telangana Government Schools

'Breakfast' Scheme: Breakfast Scheme in Telangana Government Schools

The ‘Breakfast’ Scheme announced by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to be another important reform in the state’s education sector. The scheme is likely to be officially launched from the next academic year, i.e. from the day schools reopen on June 12, 2026. Under this scheme, free breakfast will be provided to students studying in government schools every morning. All departments are already coordinating and making final arrangements for this scheme. The government expects that this move will not only reduce malnutrition among children from poor and middle-class families, but will also significantly increase the attendance rate.

It is reported that the government has already almost finalized the menu. It has been decided to provide rice items three days a week — Pongal, Khichdi, Jeera Rice, Ravva items two days — Wheat Ravva Upma, Bombay Ravva Khichdi, and Bonda one day. Education department officials said that the menu has been prepared with the advice of experts to ensure that the food items are tasty and nutritious. Special kitchens, cooking staff, and monitoring committees will be set up in each school for meal facilities.

CM Revanth Reddy considers this scheme not just as a food distribution but as a comprehensive measure towards the health development and education promotion of students. According to him, this scheme has been designed with the vision of “not making students sit in the classroom on an empty stomach, but creating an environment for learning with inspiration”. While the “Midday Meal” scheme is already running successfully, the “Breakfast Scheme” will complement it. Through this, government schools in Telangana will take another big step towards providing a safer and healthier environment for students.
