Shubhanshu Shukla: Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who successfully completed an 18-day historic mission to the International Space Station (ISS) and returned to India on August 17, 2025, was given a grand welcome at the Lucknow airport. Family members, officials, students, and people of Uttar Pradesh gathered in large numbers, waving tricolor flags and chanting slogans. The airport surroundings were filled with a festive atmosphere on this occasion.Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, BJP President Brajesh Pathak was present and welcomed Shukla. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is scaling new heights in the field of space. Subhanshu Shukla has inspired the youth and shown a new path for the country,” Pathak praised.
Shukla Mission: Inspiration for Gaganyaan
Subhanshu Shukla arrived at the ISS on June 25, 2025, aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft as part of Axiom Mission-4 (X-4) . He participated in over 60 scientific investigations, including seven key experiments, led by ISRO for 18 days. He returned to Earth on July 15, 2025, completed rehabilitation in the US and reached India on August 17. Experts said that this mission provided a key experience for India’s Gaganyaan human space travel . Shukla spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference from the ISS on June 28 and held ham radio conversations with students on July 4 and 8 .
Family and student happiness
Subhanshu Shukla’s family members expressed pride over their son taking the country’s glory to space. Students of City Montessori School in Lucknow expressed their joy at being Shukla’s alumnus and wished, “We too want to do things like him that will make the country proud.” The state government organised several programmes in Lucknow in Shukla’s honour, including interactions with students and performances of Shukla’s experiences .
