Officials said that the first danger warning is likely to be issued at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh by this afternoon. Heavy flood water is entering the Krishna river from the upper reaches. Currently, the inflow and outflow of the barrage is 3.25 lakh cusecs. Officials estimate that this flow is likely to reach 5 lakh cusecs in the next few hours.
Warning to people in the river basin area
Officials have warned people in the Krishna river basin areas to be vigilant in view of the expected increase in water flow in the river. In particular, people in low-lying areas are advised to move to safer areas. Warnings have been issued not to attempt to cross streams and canals as they may overflow. In case of emergency, they are advised to contact government officials for help.
Krishna flow increased due to heavy rains in Karnataka
The main reason for the increase in the flow in the Krishna River is the heavy rains in Karnataka. Due to the torrential rains that have been lashing the upper parts of Karnataka for the past few days, water is being released downstream from the Almatti and Narayanpur projects. Due to this, the flood flow in the Krishna River is increasing and water is entering the Prakasam Barrage in large quantities. Officials are continuously monitoring the situation.
