Vijayawada: Key developments have taken place in the trial of the Rs 3,200-3,500 crore liquor scam case that created a sensation in Andhra Pradesh . Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy (Raj Kasireddy), the main accused in the case, broke down in tears in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada. He expressed deep anguish, alleging that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials were conspiring to prevent him from getting bail. Raj Kasireddy clarified that he had no connection with the Rs 11 crore cash seized by the SIT from Sulochana farmhouse in Shamshabad, Hyderabad. “If that money is mine, shouldn’t my fingerprints be on those notes? Check the serial numbers of the notes with the Reserve Bank of India,” he requested the court. He complained that although he is 43 years old, his assets dating back 45 years have also been confiscated.
Court hearing: Remand extension
The 12 accused arrested in this case were produced before the Vijayawada ACB court by the SIT officials. They include YSRCP MP P.V. Mithun Reddy (accused no. 4), Raj Kasireddy (accused no. 1), former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, former IAS officer K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy (former OSD), Bharathi Cements Director Govindappa Balaji, Raj Kasireddy PA Dilip Kumar, Sajjala Sridhar Reddy, Buneti Chanakya and others. During the hearing, Mithun Reddy and Raj Kasireddy pleaded to the court that they were innocent and had nothing to do with this scam. Mithun Reddy complained about the jail facilities, but the public prosecutor explained that they were acting as per the rules. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the ACB court extended the remand of the accused till August 13, 2025. The accused were sent back to Vijayawada, Guntur and Rajahmundry jails.
SIT investigation: Preparation of supplementary chargesheet
The SIT has expedited the investigation of this case. It is preparing to file a supplementary chargesheet on August 12, 2025. It is reported that the names of Mithun Reddy, Varun Purushottam (accused no. 40), Buneti Chanakya (accused no. 8) and two others are likely to be included in this chargesheet. At the same time, the SIT has intensified efforts to bring back the other accused who have fled to Dubai to the state. Based on the information given by Varun Purushottam, the SIT has seized Rs. 11 crore cash from Sulochana farmhouse in Shamshabad. This cash was reportedly hidden in 12 carton boxes behind rice bags.
Court orders on Rs 11 crore cash
The ACB court has issued key orders on the seized cash of Rs 11 crore. The judge ordered that this amount be opened in a bank account in the name of the ACB court and deposited as a fixed deposit with a period of two years. He also clarified that photos and videos of the seized cash boxes should be submitted to the court as evidence. The SIT alleges that this cash is part of the commissions collected from liquor companies and that this scam took place during the YSRCP regime between 2019-2024.

Scam details: Kickbacks, shell companies
According to the SIT investigation, there were huge irregularities in the liquor policy implemented by the YSRCP government between 2019–2024. There are allegations of kickbacks of about Rs 3,500 crore being collected in this case. The chargesheet states that kickbacks of Rs 50–60 crore were collected per month by removing popular brands and giving orders to pro-YSRCP distilleries. The SIT alleges that this money was laundered through hawala channels through shell companies. Raj Kasireddy is alleged to have played a key role in this scam and acted as a benami owner of companies like Leela Distillery and UV Distilleries.
YSRCP allegations: Political vendetta
YSRCP leaders have accused the TDP-led NDA government of using the investigation as a political vendetta. YSRCP MP Y.V. Subba Reddy criticized the investigation, saying, “These arrests have nothing to do with the liquor policy. This is purely political vendetta.” However, the SIT has dismissed the allegations, saying that key evidence and statements of the accused have been obtained during the investigation.
